LIVERPOOL FC........TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER '08

.

With another season over and not winning any major thophy for a 2nd successive year, its clear that the team is not quite gud enough to win on a regular basis and that Rafa need to plunge into the transfer market and ticker with his squad.

Theres alot of deadwood in the squad and alot of players will be sold no doubt...but question is how many does Rafa need and how much will he get to spend.

With the owners at each others throats...the cheque book will probably be kept hidden and im not sure if Rafa will get as much money as he did last summer....but we'l have to wait and see.

Below are some of the player been linked with LFC in recent weeks

. GARETH BARRY....28 yr old Aston Villa midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool and Rafa has already offered a Players Plus Cash deal for the underated midfielder (could be set to replace Alonso if he leaves)....Valued at £10m

. DAVID BENTLEY....Blackburn Rovers 23 yr old right winger could be another exArsenal player on his way to a bigger club in the summer but doesn't Rafa want someone with more quality? valued at £8m-10m

. PHILIP DEGEN....25 yr old Swiss international Philip Degen has reported signed on a free transfer from Borussia Dormund

. RAFINHA....22 yr old Brazilian international also nicknamed as Lil Rafa was linked with a move but may hav collapsed due to his price tag set by his german club. Valued at £15m

. MAXI RODRIGUEZ....26 yr old Argentine has been eyed as possible right sided midfielder. The A. Madrid captin could be quite costly but would be a welcome addition if he does make the move. Valued at 20m euros

. LUIS ANTONIO VALENCIA MOSQUERA...22 Yr old Ecuador International is one of the most talented players in the premiership has been linked with Man Utd and Liverpool in the last month. Man Utd are tipped to snatch his signature ....Valued at £15m

. ERIC ABIDAL.....the 28 yr old barcelona left back has been linked with a move away from thew Nou Camp in recent months with both Liverpool and Arsenal being his admirers. Recent rumours are strife that hes set to replace Riise at left back....Valued at £8m-10m

-----------------------------------

Likely players to leave include Carson, Riise, Pennant and Crouch (hopefully Voronin too)

My top Targets would be Antonio Valencia and David Silva

BERGER EXITS VILLA AFTER COMMENTS

.

Manager Martin O'Neill has ended Patrik Berger's Aston Villa career following the Czech's comments advising team-mate Gareth Barry to move to Liverpool.

The midfielder told the captain not to miss out on the chance to join the Anfield club.

And O'Neill said: "I was really disappointed and surprised that Patrik, with all his experience, would make such an inappropriate comment.

"He won't be playing any part in proceedings from here on in."

O'Neill added: "The sad aspect of it is that we are paying Patrik's wages for him to recommend one of our players to another football club, it's ludicrous.

"I think Pat realises that now and he's apologised, he said he didn't mean a great deal of harm but the harm's been done."

LOL @ Berger.

Can't believe how this is being played out in the public eye though.

Both Fullback positions need to be sorted out.

Out of the above I think Maxi Rodriguez would do an awesome job in the Kuyt position in the current formation.

A couple of things i've read about Deegan is that he is very attacking but his defensive side lets him down, we can only wait and see. The bottom line is that he is an international so he has plenty of experience.

thank god! a new thread! the other one was 500kb to load.

personally, my targets would be alves and silva.

i think this year we should blood more players especially insua.

cant see the benefit in getting barry to be honest. he can cover central midfield and left back/wing so...maybe he's worth the swap of carson and riise?

he's definitely not worth more than 12mill at the age of 28.

by the way, degen is supposed to be crap. no technique but very pacy.

barry is under rated
gets u 8/10 everyweek, is english and a leader
and he gets on with stevie apparently

masch/barry
gerrard

i think it means the end of alonso which will be sad

we do need pacy fullbacks, think that is important, and a creative winger

if we do buy another striker, what happens to the gerrard/torres combination?

gerrard longs to play in the centre of midfield. so i cant really see barry being better than mascherano.

i do, however, think he'll be great for us on the left wing or full-back. his delivery is brilliant.

we wont be buying another striker. babel is good enough in my opinion. and so are crouch and nemeth. thats our 4 for next year i reckon, including torres.

also, i hope to see a return of the 4-4-2 when agger returns.

Deggen is a full international and can play either full back positions and has player right wing....but ive read somewhere that hes really injury prone

but look at it this way....
Plays for the same international team as philip sanderos...oh dear !!
Had one yr left on his contract last yr so didnt Dotmund think of etending his contact coz he could walk for free...or did they think hes not worth it
Hes 25 yr old and free....how many gud players at that age go for free? not many esp if they aint gud.
Hes another free player from germany....didnt that happen last yr with Voronin and hes shit? Oh dear !!

but look on the bright side...
he looks abit like finnan from a distance lol
and his name ryhmes with Hegem so gettin a new song for him wont b hard.

Seriously thou....he hasnt signed yet, theyv only agreeda preagreement which is worth nothing more...er..nothing

Rafa doesnt need to tinker too much....our pspine thorugh the middle is very strong but losing Alonso would be a blow....however Barry would bring more balance to midfield wih his left foot

Agree with Joe..Rodriguez would be excllent in the right position

What abt Joaquin being linked with Everton???? If hes even talking to them then Rafa should do what he did last time when they were chattin with Sissoko and step in with a bid.

David Villa's agent recently said that alot of players from Valencia will be sold in the summer and with whats been happening at Valencia this yr and their need for sewrious money has devalued the transfer prices of alot of their big stars too

Also im smelling something potentialy dodgey goin on with Wigan and Utd. Both Valencia and Palacisos are in talk with Utd and now Wigan are gona go get another couple of south americans. Is it just me or does anyone else think Utd and Wigan could be 'working' togethe on some level...just like big clubs work with a foreign club aboard but in this case we could hav Fergie recommending player to Bruce, he goes n buys them or at least on a temporary basis an if they any gud then Fergie steps in with a bid which is probably gona be more than what wigan paid for them....win win situation for both clubs

Wats happening fellas?

In regards to that Deggen bloke, if we do get him he's gonna end up being another joker like arbeloa, kromkamp, nunez, heggem. At right back i seriously think we should mount abit for daniel Alves. He would be a quality addition to our squad and provide some real pace down our right flank. Good defensively and gotta abit of flair aswell. Remember watching him against spurs and he should abit of steel too so dont think he'd be intimidated by the prem. On the left I think Abidal would be a good signing. Provide some stability to the left and hes a proven player as in hes played in Champs League and World cups etc. Barry would be a joke, is he realistically gonna strenghten our team? Just another over priced utility player. Only good thing about him is his nationality.

We seriously need to do sommin about our right hand side. Pennant just seems so out of his depth and only performs against mediocre sides i.e. fulham and Brum. Kuyt is arguably the most frustrating player in our squad bar voronin. He is constantly going backwards, lacks pace and creativity, poor crossing. We need a genuine out an out winger with flair and steel. Im thinking Quaresma. This guy has literally been running the show in Portugal and is relatively young aswell..showed glimpses of quality against us earlier in champs league aswell. I think he would really worry defences and the fact that he is so versatile is a real bonus.

In terms of departures: Kewell, Voronin, Finnan, Riise, Kuyt, Carson, Itandje, Pennant

That should get us around £30 mill

Im gutted Barry will be leaving. Ive watched a number of times at villa park, and always consistent. And also felxible fitting comfortable into other positions.

Dont fancy any of the pool players at villa, unless Gerrard or Torres was coming over. :p.

Crouch can do one, and Carson can piss off back up north, let us down between november and march!!! Scored the third most goals in the league but conceded too many. Alot away games we pulled backto a draw at the last minute by the oppostion. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham etc.. Carson has been consistent enough.

If (or when) Barry goes i'd like to see either Sidwell from chelsea or impressive Jamie Bullard of Fulham play infront of the Holte End Faithful.

Up the Villa!
Down with the blues!

Barry has always been an underated player but ive always liked. Hes very versatile , can play centre bacm, left, centre midfield n left wing even thou hes no Theo Walcott on the wings.

Alonso or Barry?...Alonso wins all the time and im sure Rafa could get another centre midfielder from aboard and if Rafas top priority lies in another position i.e on the wings mayb or another top striker then doin business with Villa the way he is (using players as bait) could b his only way....other top midfielders could cost loads

Last summer we made about £20m from selling on players, the same thing could be done this time, so i dont think Rafa is goin to get more than he had last yr....if its the same amount then thats more than enough

Goin for players like Daniel Alves isnt viable esp as Seville want £20m for him...we could get Rafinha for about a 3rd that amount

Rafinha, Lahm, Valencia, Quaresma, Silva....we cant afford all of them at the moment not with way things are with the Owners right now....but who knows, Hicks might surprise us.

Just wana say congratualtion to the young lads today for winning the Barclays Reserve League.

Watched the game live on LFCTV and i thought the lads were excellent...the back four were solid....plessis n lucas looked decent together, el zahar worked his socks off and Nemeth n Brouwer were always a threat upfront.

Nemeth and Pachesco are just brilliant

The problem with Liverpool is that you buy too many nearly there players, like kuyt or Pennant... lets face it, they're not Tevez or Nani are they? Or Drogba and Essien.

You need a massive clear out of the nearly there players and need to get in 3-4 top class players.

Bentley, Barry, Ronaldinhio, Lahm, and I can see you challenging for the 2nd or third spot... to win it, you need a squad of players of pretty much that calibre.

The trick your missing is, to win the premier league you need 6-7 exceptionally talented players, world beater kinds, you have 2, maybe three, gerrard, Torres and maybe Reina.

United have Giggs, Scholes, Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand.

Chelsea have Cech, Terry, Ballack, Lampard, Cole, Essien, Drogba, Anelka, Carvalheo, Makelele.

Arsenal have Toure, Fabregas, van persie, Hleb*, Flamini *( * these guys are nearly there that is why they didnt win, not enough superstars)

as much as i think Barry wants to go to liverpool, i dont think he will

if carrick/hargreaves were bout £17m, then barry must be on a similar price tag (plus he's gettin england caps over both of them)

plus because of the ownership problems at LFC, i doubt they will be able to conjur up a deal, hence the reason they offered a 'mish-mash' of players as part of the deal

Yeh getting lots of world beaters in one go is very very hard and Rafa wont hav the funds to do it

We hav a core of players that we can build around...if you look at the centre of the pitch, we'r strong now but when u look down the flanks, we'r stil quite 'normal' really.

Gk - Reina
Centre Backs - Carragher Skrtel Agger
Centre Midfielders - Gerrard Alonso Mascherano
Forwards - Torres Babel.

Thats about 9 players that i think are top quality....we now need others that are on the same level to play in the fullback positions and down the wings and mayb another partner for Fernando.....that means getting at least 5 top top quality players.....that cant be done in one summer...i think Rafa could probably get 2 if he wanted but that wil again leave him with pennies to play with left to fill in the other gaps

I think it will be a couple of years b4 we'r in a position like United are in where they can just focus on getting 2 big name players

Rafa only bought players like Nunez, Pennant, Crouch coz that was b4 the new owners came to the club and Moores couldnt afford to lend him £30m-£40m every time

Last summers spending was quite gud, moneys been spent of Torres, Babel, Skrtel, Lucas and Mascherano and theyve all been decent buys to say the least (Sebastian Leto is the only one who hasnt featured much in the 1st team mainly playing for the reserves and Voronin is just shit anyway)

but we'l see what happens

like we were surprised last summer, i think we'll be surprised this summer too.

i have a feeling we'll have around £50million to spend including player sales.

you have to consider:
champions league money
premierleague final position money
general admission money
player sales
player wages (e.g kewell leaving will be a huge relief!)
interest paid/installments on g+h loan

i reckon we'll get one more top notch player. preferably a right back in the league of evra/cole.

we need to make kuyts defensive right wing role redundant and stick someone more attacking in that position.

even if we get mancini and alves, i would be extremely happy. btw mancini can also play left back.

Dont understand why Dos Santos would wana go to Man City of all teams....unless big phil scolari is gona b the next manager n hes already identified him as a signing...but stil...man city???.

Satty...i dont know man..everytime ive watched Mancini he just dont d it for me...he dont like tackling..i want players who wana get stuck it, even if they are attack minded players...if Roma end up winning the league then i cant see him leaving Roma.

The reason why id choose David Silva is coz Valencia are in ashit hole at the moment. They aint gona be in any european competition next yr and they hav a lot of rebuilding to do and they need lots money and im sure they better players will wana leave....its like theyv already announced the 'closing down' sale....'everything must go' and theres a que of bosses waitin to pounce

i dont even wanna speculate this summer about who we're gonna buy. rafa is proper cloak and dagger when it comes to transfers. a couple of red herrings get dropped to the media every year now after chelsea kept stealing our targets.

that said....dani alves is in the country! he's not talk to chelsea cus theyve just signed bosingwa for 15m more than he's worth. so that leaves us and the scum....or spurs even (arse cant afford him)
