has science disenchanted the world? |

this board bores the tits off me at the moment, so i wanna add something that im hoping might get a few sensible non-bhatra orientated replies which might engender further discussion in that ethereal other realm, reality. to the topic at hand, bledz!
the past 400-odd yrs have seen the rise of mechanical, social, and cultural progress. from a world where the average businessman led a life not too dissimilar from the average peasant, science has taken us to a world where we can quantify how much we are worth by dint of our material possessions; increased our life span (so we can spend more time gathering these "precious" items of value), and brought us to an age where the world is, at most, a mere 14 hours away. or even 14 seconds away. the world wide web gives us the world at our fingertips, and not just our worlds, other peoples too. but even with all this accessability, how many of yoou can say you explore the world, taking it in in greater detail than HDTV, finding solace in nature?
the biggest challenge facing humanity, they call it. global warming is a part of our reality, one which we created, and one which we will have to destroy for us to survive. but has all our tinkering with the world left us without the imagination and pride to actually find a solution? will we just look about us, and throw chemical fire at the problem, in an effort to save us? or can we actually see what lies ahead of us, and what is right infront of us, and put these together in such a way that nature no longer feels the cold splicing of sciences scalpel?
im gonna let my pile of steaming typed diahorrea sit here on this board, and fester. and hopefully, from it, will sprout the fungii of good discussion. i await ur replies with baited breath.
