Pimp...naa man not Villa, id rather try and get Eto'o
But for now we need a centre back...Rafa will probably go for a shhort term solution like Kakha Kaladze but id rather go out n buy Garay...him n agger would a long term pairing
If Blatter get his way n says everyone has to hav a certain amount of home grown players in their suqd then Rafa will hav no choice but to go out n buy english lads n johnson would b ain that category |

hell no@any central midfield signing! mascherano will be our player.
any player from man city is going to cost anything from 10million upwards. id go for garay. the more we invest in quality, the better. but, if we are going to spend around 10million, id go all out to get micah richards for 15mill or so. centre back and right back.
i think rafa needs to risk a youth player in the first team. id play lindfield.
realistically, we cant really buy anyone else during this period if we do spend 10millish. hopefully next summer, we'll get rid of voronin and kuyt, bring in someone of great quality on the lines of huntelaar. |

Michael Johnson is very good, I’d never heard of him before but I saw him other day when we played shitty at the Lane.
Very similar to Gerrard in that he’s dynamic.
But I can’t see City letting him go at any price espically when they are moving forward

sun the bun.....doesnt matter how many players a team buys in the summer...teams hav injuries or the ones they hav been bought may not be performing or exsisting players might not be performing n the manager gets vexed so something always has to giv...at the moment wev got young experienced hobbs covering carragher n hyypia coz aggers stil not fit so say if one of those gets injured in jan and we dont buy any cover? then rafa would b blasted for not buying anyone..its simple logic
we only need a centre back at the moment....anyone else can be bought in the summer...those names ive listed above are jus names being linked thats all
rafa wil buy a centre back, get mascherano signed up permanently and i reckon he'l buy another youngster from somwhere...since hes been here hes bought about 4 on average every january.
one reason why theyv hav to pegg back on the stadium coz the americans hav realised that they cant afford an expensive stadium AND fork out money every 6 months for new players |

someone mentioned the team garay plays for ,saying that they were a good team etc etc
so i decided to check them out on the sunday when i got home,
there was around 20minutes of the match left.
i think it was 2-1 to sevilla
i managed to see this garay dude.
looks like he had scored the goal for his team too.
i went to the toilet and came back to find that sevilla were all ober them and it finished 4-1 i think.
i'm sitting thinking wtf
where is this garay guy
sevilla ran riot.
then i find out when the game finished that he had been sent off.
so if anyone watched this match
was it due to being a man down
or is this guy that good? |

Pimp...any team who gets a centre back sent off will be weaker at the back esp if the team hasnt got any more subs left to use.
All i know of Garay is thats hes highly rated by alot of the major clubs in europe, like Real and Barca. He played alongside Gabrial Paletta and Insua in the under 20 world cup competition which argentina won...he was also named in the La Liga team of the year last season so thats definately counts for somthing. Apparenlty hes got a nack of scoring free kicks and spot kicks (all though there was one i saw him mis against Real madrid.)
But ...remember Gabriel Paletta found it hard to break though into our 1st team so a note of caution but id still give him a chance. Theres no question about the mentality of argentinian players so its jus a case of seeing whether we buy him and then whether he can force rafas hands by playing him on a regular basis. |

i've heard that the mascherano deal is:
half fee, half salary. meaning, we dont pay him weekly, MSI do? so thats £9million fee, the rest is salary. how we pay that salary will be interesting.
which is, depending on the contract, signed, is decent value, because mascherano cannot have wage rises and contract extensions? i dunno.
what position does Silva play? because if he;s a winger-cum-striker, like babel, im skeptical. but if he;s a winger like joaquin (who is also at valencia) id love to have him.

Rafa wil get a centre back n a couple of youngsters
Thomas Ujfaluis agent has said we offered Fiorentina £500k for him but he hasnt said yes or no....while his club has offered him a new 3 yr deal..and said 'we hav done all we can'....so that to me suggests somthing could be happening.
Apparently we'r linked with this 18 yr old keeper from Spain too
Rafa was saying that if anyone came in with a £40m bid for one of our players then we'l listen...but thats highly unlikely.coz apart from Gerrard n Torres, theres no1 else thats worth even close to that
Reports in Spain suggest Ronaldinho is close to joining AC Milan. |

LIVERPOOL AFTER SLOVAK DEFENDER MARTIN ŠKRTEL
.
23-year-old Zenit St Petersburg defender Martin Škrtel is being heavy linked to move to Liverpool fc in the January transfer window
The Slovakian, who featured in Zenit’s 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park in December, is valued at £4-5million.
His club Zenit St Petersburg sit at the top of their Russian Premier League on 61 pints, 2 points ahead of CSKA Moskva
---------------------------------
All i can say is if we do buy him then take into consideration what Houiller and Rafa did when both were buying 2 relatively unknown centre backs in Sami Hyypia (£2.5m) and Daniel Agger (£5.5m) respectively....and we all know how they turned out to be. Fingers Croosed.

i've heard this guys been likened to Sami? big tall commanding centre back?
i think for progression, we need to sell kuyt. rafa has been quick to get rid of failures, nunez, gonzalez, morientes, kromkamp so why not cut our loses with kuyt?
if we can get around 3-4mill for him, i'd be happy.
i was quietly impressed with voronin when he came on yesterday against luton, his pace was apparent compared to crouch and kuyt and offered a directness that wasnt on the pitch.
luton played very very well. i think in the return leg, we should still keep gerrard and torres out because the team needs to stand up and be counted for.
lucas and benayoun played okay. but lutons players looked better quality all round.

LIVERPOOL are set to break their transfer record for a defender by paying £6.5m for Slovak international centre back Martin Skrtel.
The Zenit St Petersburg star arrived on Merseyside last night ahead of a medical today and the club are confident the deal will be finalised within the next 48 hours.
Chief executive Rick Parry thrashed out a deal with Zenit officials during talks in Russia at the weekend.
Skrtel is rated as one of the most promising defenders in European football and Liverpool have had to beat off competition from some of the continent's top clubs to set up the deal.
Should the transfer go through as expected it will mark the end of Rafa Benitez's search for a new centre-half that began with the ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Gabriel Heinze and which became increasingly urgent in recent weeks following injuries to both Daniel Agger and Sami Hyypia.
Skrtel is a 23-year-old full Slovak international with 15 caps to his name.
He joined Zenit in 2004 and has gone on to make more than 100 appearances in the Russian league.
Standing 6 ft 4 ins tall, Skrtel has a reputation as a no-nonsense defender who does not shy away from the physical side of the game.
With Agger – who was named Denmark's player of the year at the weekend – still not ready to make his return to first team action after suffering a metatarsal injury last September, Benitez has been short of cover at centre back for several months.
That situation worsened recently when Hyypia picked up an ankle injury at Derby County on Boxing Day, leaving Benitez with only Alvaro Arbeloa, a full-back, and teenager Jack Hobbs as his options to partner Jamie Carragher in the centre of defence.
Benitez will be keen to see the deal for Skrtel tied up as quickly as possible so he can be added to the Liverpool squad, possibly even in time for the trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rick Parry today dismissed suggestions he is flying to the USA for an urgent meeting with Tom Hicks and George Gillett regarding Benitez's future.
The appointment is a diary engagement to discuss new stadium plans and Parry insists no discussions about the manager's position are on the agenda.
He said: "It's been in the diary for a long time, to discuss the stadium."

@Satpal - UK_Jatt_1 got the assesment of Fernandes pretty much spot on. Similar build wise to Silva, perhaps a little taller but he definately is best centrally. He probably has potential for a better goal threat then Aimar does.
Either way though he isnt £20m player and really to get the best out of him you dont want to play him off a striker. You either need two play him in the 'hole' behind two or have him as part of a 4-3-3 as one of the supporting players in attack.
But if you got £20m, your better off spunking it on Villa to partner Torres then a Fernandes type player. |

Liverpool have today confirmed the signing of Slovakian international defender Martin Skrtel from Zenit St Petersberg on a four and a half year contract.
The established centre half has 15 international caps for his country and Reds boss Rafael Benitez is predicting a bright Anfield future for the 23-year-old.
"I think he is a player maybe not many people know about but he played against Everton for Zenit St Petersberg, and he is a centre half that knows the English style," said Benitez.
"He is aggressive, quick, is good in the air and I think he's a very good player for the future and also for the present.
"He is very competitive, but his mentality for me is very good. Watching him in some games his mentality is similar to Carra so I think it's very positive for the team."
The Reds boss also believes Skrtel is a player who will settle quickly into life at Anfield and put pressure on the likes of Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger for a starting role in the first team.
"He has quality and he can be a problem for them and a good problem for me if I need to decide who to play in the future," added Benitez.
"He has experience and enough quality for playing as soon as possible."
Skrtel will wear squad number 37 at Anfield.

why aint noone got the no2 jersey? thought arbeloa should hav taken that in the summer
no37 for skrtel? probably get Sami's no4 when he goes init
Skrtel sounds interesting thou, aggressive, v.tall and som pace...him n agger could form the central pairing for the next 8-10 yrs
stil disappointed Rafa didnt go for Kompany or Garay |

hmm....skrtel sounds like he's very much his own player, the height of hyypia, the attitude of carra and the pace of erm....agger?
looking forward to seeing him play in a red shirt though. a central defender is what we needed. big much.
uk_jatt> we can still get a class centreback, because if hyypia does leave in the summer, we'll have to replace him (probably with hobbs though for the 1st part of next season).
so next....mascherano and david silva? out go sissoko, carson and kuyt? |

Can't really say for sure that Rafa didn't go in for Kompany or Garay.
Pepe prefers the number he has.
So does Arbeloa. He was No2 when he came in and then when Zenden left he took his shirt cus he prefers that number....I think. |

Satty...ur gona hav to stop dreaming abt Kuyt leaving coz Rafa likes him. Theres not gona be anymore signings until summer now, big mo is the only one leaving, im not sure abt carson leaving in jan
we jus hav to concentrate on winning as much as we can now n hopefully we can chop n change players in the summer in terms of transfers |

Voronin is even worse. He was aweful in the first half on saturday.
Kuyt's confidence is shot to bits at the moment. He wasn't this bad last season. |

rumours we're in for £18million Huntelaar? That would be a great great signing, especially if we can use Kuyt in a swap deal (a striker proven in the dutch league and a national figure).
The signing would also put to bed all this boardroom soap opera BS. |

for my own sanity, i dont want to talk about the boardroom and loans and shit.
okay so today or tomorrow, we'd have sold sissoko to juventus for £8million rising to £10million depending on appearances. £7million of which, we get straight away.
its a shame to see him go, but i think its the wisest thing to do considering we still have 4 world class midfielders in xabi, masch, stevie and lucas.
strong rumours in spain are that we're about to sign pablo aimar for €7.5million. now that would satisfy me! just the boost that we need in this moment. luis garcia style player with alot more skill. still only 28.
Reports that the mascherano deal is "complicated" because the fee also includes the players wages. £17million will be paid to MSI in 5 bulk payments. Thats about £3.5mill a year. It is not known how much mascherano will actually receive.
If these three things happen, I'll be very happy. |

Mascherano deal will definately happen now as Hicks said hes 'absolutly' gona back the signing
Pablo Aimar has a pelvis injury at the moment but would be an excellent signing...if theres any player that can play behind Torres, most people would say Kaka, Rooney and Pablo Aimar...but a transition to the premiership is key to a player of his type and stature...reminds me of zola in some ways
Big Mo is defo goin b4 thursday...will be gutted
as for Lucas....i think hes stil som distance away from being world class....he has more than potential, what he needs is a long run in the side to prove his worth...excellent goal against Havant, not many keepers would of saved that but what he needs to improve on his his defensive qualities, he needs to fight abit more for the ball and bite into his tackles, at the moment he seems abit too relaxed....hes more like Alonso than Mascherano |

I agree that he is more like alonso as opposed to Mascharano and therefore nothing really wrong with his defensive game. He just plays it in a different style where he will look to get the ball and play it. |

lucas does drive forward though, a little like lampard does, he's only young and hopefully that drive/aggression can be taught.

its very sad to see him go.....but, we had too much competition in that part of the pitch.
todays match is as massive as we want it to be. because we're playing for 3-4th place. |
