The champions thread

Seeing as the old thread is getting rather massive and is titled for the last season...i thought let's have one for the upcoming season...

the squad looks stronger with some quality signings...with many teams strenghening it will be difficult to retain the premiership and you get a feeling that if we are going to win the champions league again - whis would be the season to do it with some of united older players reaching the twilight of their careers...

so peoples thoughts, predictions and news for the upcoming season.

good to start the season off with a trophy in terms of morale but in reality doesn't mean much...is it a bad omen?

Just in that Tevez registration looks to be delayed

"Carlos Tevez's move to Manchester United has hit further delays today, with the player uncertain to be registered by the start of the Premier League season next weekend.

Sources at the Premier League told Sky Sports that the Argentine's registration may take 'a few more days', meaning that the striker would miss United's first game against Reading. "

The new boys

so predictions, ones to watch, possible weaknesses, starting 11?

let the games begin..

Absolutely ridiculous reacting like that when he deals with usch provcation every single game. Brandy clinches inaugural Champions Youth Cup title for Manchester United
It was a classic battle between Juventus, a team with the best defensive record in the tournament, against Manchester United, a side blessed with free-flowing attacking play.
Beat Porto, Boca Juniors in the group stages and then Barcalona in the quaters, Flamengo in the semis and Juventus in the final to win the Cup.

Under 19s competition, quite a few players look promising.

if we can raise up some 10m cash, plus the 5m we'll give ajax in the immediate sene, we can get the Klass out and out striker we want.

rooney
Tevez.

i just noticed, u ain't got hargreaves there as the new recruit... ok so he's been in the treatment room with tendonitis lately, but look at his solid ball-keeping performances when he has come on after a quick jab...

Vida and Rio are so bored that Rio has become a ball playing defender while Vidic has taken the goal-scoring burden upon his shoulders lol.

Tevez is looking better game-by-game, Nani is a legend for providing 'that corner kick', and ANderson looks happy to be on the bench learning the british style of play and being slowley introduced into the EPL champions game... a long term plan with him for sure...

Man, i just can't wait till the end of the season. I hope they're all fit bulked up and mentally prepared for the "squeeky bum time". lol

i recently interpreted that as a cheeky way of saying, it's the time when the shit teams drop out of the title race.
lol

I love the way Lé Arse are playing atm, such style guile and attacking exertions with results make me smile. It makes me wonder how solid and attacking our style will be once the team is strong, structured and playing well...

Their derby was an exception but in those games form dont count. If arsenal are top or within 6 points of the leaders come Jan then they can be considered challengers and that applies to all teams for me!

I was merely saying i like their play of football as much as i hate chelsea style of football. same scale but diff ends u know... :) As for their games - derby can hardly b classed as opposition can they. They've played relatively easy games in comparison to our boys. I suppose their CL opponents were more difficult than us, but they played at home on their pitch whlie we played on a dodgy away one...

as for the tickets, i want ones in the mid tier more towards the centre of the pitch.. or i'd like to borrow someone's skyboy... i borrowed chelsea's at wembley when they're not there. lol

I am royalty you know, and should be treated as such by the footbaling people...
now, who wants to chip in for a executive box? lol

I know he's not gonna make the runs he used into the box, but then he's just doing the same job as Carrick and that's picking up the ball and picking passes.

Squad depth is definately being tested early on but the summer signings are fully showing their worth. Think well will see the full benefit in the final third of the season because so long as most of the first team squad are fit, we wont see the same tiredness that was evident last season in the final few weeks. It not just about the depth but the quality in depth and this season we seem to have it.

Still think we are a striker light mind without being able to rely on saha fitness and rossi's exploits at villareal dont seem to be making us feel any better about the situation.

I think if Saha was able to stay fit, we wouldnt need another striker as our options are quite capable already with the way we play, which is basically
4-2-4.

However we cant really rely on him, when his fit his a cracking player, can offer so much to the team, but the fella just cant stay fit.

Against Kiev i think we should give Carrick, Nani, Saha and maybe even Pique a run out. I have a feeling Fergie will rest Anderson, as Hargreaves needs the games as does Carrick. Tbh we have so many options i dont have a clue what he will do. Nani will most definitely start.

In agreement Nani/Carrick/Saha all to start provided they are all fit enough. However i think Hargreaves is more likely to be rested, he ha to take the injection to get him ready for the recent games and Kiev are such a poor side we are better off ensuring he is ready for rovers on sunday.

Plus Anderson needs as many games as he can ge under his belt, let carrick sit and give him licence to get forward. Plus i got a bet on with an a lad at the wigan game who was slating anderson when he come on, he reckoned he was waste of money and wouldnt get 3 goals in the season. Only £20 mind but it will buy me a few jars and the satisfaction of knowing i was right, i reckon i can collect by the new year if he is allowed to play!

well it always matters more when you got a few quid on it! Anderson has shown so much quality, especially his defensive work which has really caught me off guard. I didnt expect him to be so good defensively, i thought he'd be a little lazy getting around the pitch, but his proved me wrong. His distribution and choice of passes is superb for such a young head. His going to be in the heart of our midfield for a long time if he keeps this up. With scholsey out he will get alot more games.

Against Arsneal i felt he had fabregas pretty much in his pocket and did a better job than hargreaves in the holding role, which is some achievment, considiring his an attacking player by nature. Box to box is what we've been lacking since keano in his prime, Anderson could just be that.

Ach. I'm going to go 50/50 for my fav signing; Anderson and Nani have impressed me the most. If anything Nani takes my pick because he's been so effective when he's had time to play. His Speed, dribbling passing crosses and his shooting have all been of the highest order.

Anderson seems to remind me of a Edgar Davids at present. Always biting at peoples feet for the ball, helping out the defenders and the attackers. We are yet to see his attacking game but if it's anything as good as his defensive then we got a treat of a player on our hands./ Imagine a Ronaldhinio crosses with Davids and you get Anderson at the tender age of 19. He's had a small chance early and boy had he bitten off more than what we thought he could chew. His temperament stands up to the sternest tests.. if he can handle Fab on his day then he can handle most.

As for the game of tonight against Dynamo Diev. Kiev are without two of their best strikers, so they've got a really good chance of scoring a goal!. I feel as we're not just yet qualified we'll still be using some of the big names. Here's the line-up i expect.

EVDS
Wes as Rb Rio/Vidic cd and Evra as the Lb

Hargo Carrick Central midfield pairing with Nani and Ronaldo on the wings.. Or we may starts with Giggs and bring him off for the second half when we will be 3 goals up :)

attack.. Rooney and Tevez.. Maybe Saha for the second half?

subs i'd bring on: Danny Simpson at RB for the first. I just can't understand why Wes is at Rb. he started the arsenal movement which led to our first conceded goal

Then save Ronaldo and Wooney leggies...

I think we would do much worse then to find another striker in jan, however not too expensive, a deal like larsonn last season would be ideal.

Think spurs will surprise a few, think people have underestimated how good Ramos is and i dont say that off the back off the last couple of results. His achievements with Sevilla considering the resources he had make them greater than Rafa's at Valencia for me, as most of the groundwork had been done by Hector Cuper before the max & paddy lookalike took over. Plus Sevilla played quality football, that was there trademark with proper wingers and attacking full backs. Benitez second season with Valencia produced some quality football but he yet to make it the trademark of any significance with the vermin.

We are still the team to beat, here's hoping vermin do slip up though. I would take the bitters getting champions league football over them as it will cost the dippers alot more!

I would agree there
I was advocating Ramos since the start of the year.

Sevilla were the most complete footballing side in La Liga over the last two seasons. I know Barca got the plaudits but Sevilla as an attacking unit were more potent. Not sure about the comparisons between benitez and Ramos, I think they are both very good managers. But yep Valencia were on the up prior to Benitez’s arrival with Ranieri and Cuper laying the foundations and he also had the money from the sale of Mendieta to build a new team. Very similar to how Mourinjho added the finshing touches to Ranieri’s Chelsea. Out of the two managers I’d go with Ramos just because his footballing philosophy is what Spurs fans crave for, whilst Benitez seems more pragmatic.

Plus he has a tactical nous to him which shows that Any Spurs fan still pining over that bumbling idiot Martin Jol is as clueless at a Gooner at a brothel. Even the one game we lost under him against Birmingham City was a travesty.

As for the title United are a class above the rest this season. I’ve been impressed with Anderson, not very heralded before but absoulute class. As much as you have to applaud the Woolwich for playing above their station they are simply not good enough and will fall by the way side. Chelsea providing they get Drogba, Carvalho and Terry back quite quickly will finish strongly. I think Ballack returning might be significant, he’s labelled as a flop at the moment but he’s a class act. Everyone knows that

Liverpool will finish third or fourth, it will be a tussle with the Woolwich but I think they may have the edge.
Manchester City are piss poor, Everton have a better chance than them, not as flashy but more of a ahrd working unit. There home record was misguided, there were quite a few games where they were below par. They only played two decent sides at home Man Utd and Spurs, United battered them and lsot to a wonder strike, we beat them with ten men. They have been hammere don the road as well.

The likes of Portmouth and Aston Villa will find their natural place in the lower order.

Agreed, i dont dispute Rafa's qualities as a manager for a second nor the likes of Jose. But given a choice in United fashion i'll always favour a manager who's emphasis is always attack first. Now Kevin Keegan favoured attack and he is by no means a class manager other than for the crybabies, tactical nous has to be combined with it and Ramos has that.

Just goes to highlight for me that is the type of manager and the credentials we need for the long term to succeed SAF. Everyone jumps on this Keane bandwagon. I not swung by sentiment, for me the best man for the job is the only criteria and they need a track record of success at a high level and playing an attractive style of football whilst being tactically clued up. If that happens to be Keane then so be it but if he hasnt made Sunderland a 'premiership' club and got them into europe consistently with the budget he has and done it playing a brand of football that has all the afficionados salivating, then he wont be in contention for the post when SAF pacs it up.

On Anderson, this kid has me wetting my pants every time a big game roles round now cause you know he is chomping at the bit for it. He has surprised everyone by how good and disciplined he is defensively, yet his attacking pontential as not been seen. His 50 yard run against the vermin before being brought down by stevie g, who incidentally was made andersons pet bitch for the game, is a glimpse of it. He will add goals and assists mark my words. I dont think we have had potentially as complete a midfielder, as good and as well rounded a player Bryan Robson was he never looked like he was going to go on a mazy dribble 30 yards up with pitch or do a few stepovers to beat a man.

On the title race, i think we will do it based on our remaining fixtures and our increased squad strength. I dont buy the sky hype about grand slams and a four team title race. Come the end of January it will be a two team affair, possibley three if chelsea do sign anelka and another player to compensate for the losses to the african nations. Unfortunately the vermin arent invited to the party, it will be 18 years and counting, there's always next season hey.....

I think Mark Hughes is a better shout for next United manager. He seems to have something about him. I thought Quieroz was nailed on to succeed Fergie.
I think Paul Ince wil lbecome a great manager in time, give him a few seasons.

As for Ramos the bloke is class. Theres a story about him when he was at Espanyol that they were winning 2-0 but he was so upset with his players for sitting back that he took two of them off and din;t replace them or something of that ilk.
I only saw the highlights of the game against City but we played some excellant football, Im quietly confident of turning over the Woolwich on saturday, the only problem is we have one first choice defender left

As far as any former United players potentially taking over from SAF, then Sparky is definately top of the list. He proven he can make a competitive side on limited resources, can buy in established talent and get the best out of them i.e. McCarthy & Cruz, and also bring on youngsters i.e. Bentley. Plus despite what the media or arsene whinger would have you believe, they arent boring side to watch based on physical football.

Queiroz, gold help us know i hope he doesnt take over. For me always marked down as a decent number 2 and coach, not management material. Plus if he did takeover i would have the dubious honour of having chased him down the chester paparazzi style ala Princess Diana. We were on the Chester Road recently arriving for a game, my brother noticed Carlos drive by on the inside lane. So when we over took him my brother waved, he was not acknowledged by Carlos and he continued to look straight ahead. So my brothers mate who was driving, in his 1.3lt fiesta takes it upon himself to chase Carlos's very powerful Audi Q7 club car. When he pulled alongside him, my brother and his friend proceeded to demand 'carlos give us a wave', to which he did, along with a cheeky smile and a thumbs up aswell. His reputation with us remained intact but not enhanced sufficiently so that we would support him as a successor to SAF.

On Paul Ince, as promising a career in management as he has i'm afraid the self styled Guvnor (or cock as others might say) has burnt any bridges he had left with us. Had he not so whole heartedley immersed himself as a bindipper then he may have stood a chance. But then again Judas scum will always stay that way, we should have known what to expect when he did over the pie and mash eaters from upton park to join us.

arsenal to battle out 3rd position with us? ich don't think so. i think arsenal and united are playing the best football and theyll be the ones contesting positions 1 and 2. we'll be going for 3rd and 4th spots with chelsea. i dont think against the biggest teams, we have enough creativity.

having said that, i reckon this year the top four will be closer than ever before..possibly only 10 points separating 4th from 1st. reluctant to say this but....i reckon scum, arse, us, chelski.

but you never know in football, we finish strong all the time, united might get injuries etc, and chelsea have had the worst referee-ing decisions out of all of us. so....who knows.

very tough match against everton. i'll say 0-0.

No trains or coaches going up that day which is pretty shit, will probably end up going with the united lot who do coaches from london.

Not sure about one united though.

Havent been to ot in a while to be honest since i gave up st, but i was at the derby last year, that was good even though i was below the citeh fans.

Also got myself sorted for the champions league game and a few other ones.

Nice one lad, we'll try sort a link up if your about. Only issue is the 12am kick off means it an early start, i aiming to get up there about 10am. If your going to book on the London supporters branch then move quick on it because if trains/coaches aint running then it will be in extra demand.

The whole ground will be standing for this game, i have no doubt about that. And i'm dreaming of the longest calypso rendition in our history. The atmosphere will be something else and emotional with it.

The fans and lad off redissue who got the whole kit tribute to happen has made it extra special. City will play without sponsors on their kit and they will have armbands woven into the kit. Would actually be great if everyone was in the ground early like the old days, never happens now but if the ground is full a good while before kick off it would be superb to get the singing going.

I hear sven and the captain wrote letters to all their fans pleading for them to behave, lets hope they do.

I still might get there for the night before and go on a massive piss up rather then getting a coach at 6am. Dont really fancy that. Got my tickets so ill be there no matter what.

Anyone else going? I hear theres always a few spares on viagogo, even though that will rip you off quite abit.

Sven didnt write the letter, come on we know it came from man city as a club. But i believe 100% the intentions of the CLUB are good, it was a tragedy for manchester after all at the time let alone the country (the rivalry wasnt then what it is now). Well Lyon looks like it going to be a repeat of Lille last season with the ticket issue. Rangers had around 1,600 or so in the groups, we had less i think a few years back when we met in the group stages. This will definately be the biggest away following in europe this season and most are already booked up. The carve up of the tickets will be the issue, 800 odd going to MUfuckingshitTravel, then 700 for the rest but somewhere the french supporters club have to get their share!

I'm hopeful of getting a ticket with 2 out of 3 aways on record, also have another membership on mates with 2 out of 3. Am booked up via geneva so am going regardless of not getting a ticket. Tbh had i not done any others this season i wouldnt have been too fussed as will be rat arsed any way come kick off. But having done some in the groups definately want the credit for Lyon, will be world war 3 declared on the ticket office if i dont get one!Should see me through for a guaranteed ticket for the rest of the comp if i do!

Takes the piss though, we complain about other clubs putting prices up when we come to town and our board are doing the same to visiting fans.

I think there a couple on here who probably browse on redissue, i waiting for my e-mail to get sorted so i can use the forum. The private forum comes in handy if you ever need a spare.
