I got a example here..two days back I was talking to my friend on chat and wen I switched on the webcam, the guy immediately reacted on seeing the me wearing a kesri parna and said u look like another bhindrwala in makin and he is gonna report to punjab police for that..(in a laughing manner) so you can judge the situation from here..he started callin me kharku sikh
well thats the image of sikhs in India so educated ppl who dont want any trouble dont tell children about the past and reality..

I hear what your saying about talking about it in the open - I got told of for being at the front of the 1984 demonstration and leading the chants for the same reasons - I wasn't even shouting anything about Khalistan at all !!!
The kharku issue is just a misconception which people need to be educated about.
You've got to question why the Khalistani's get branded as terrorists? I think Khalistan is more of a concept we are trying to achieve globally rather than a piece of land - which someone once told me was the Jatt menatlity (i don't personally agree on blanket statements - just giving you a perspective).
You've got to remember that there are two sides to the story and that innocent Sikhs AND Hindus have been killed by BOTH sides - That is where the current tension comes from - everyone has lost someone.
So, like I said, I'm interested to know what the main points for Khalistan were - I don't want the same discussions I always see on this board, I want new perspectives etc. (if there were any) ! |

I think the "Jatt mentality" quote refers to the quest for a "land" for the Sikhs.
I semi understand the need for land - If every country threw out the Sikhs (e.g. France's ban on religious items) then where would we go?
But I think it's more important to educate the world and make it into a global Khalistan where everyone is equal and has the freedom to worship God according to their own beliefs as long as it is not forced upon others or adversly affects society.
The Sikhs stood up for India against the Mughals because they were tyrants, not because they wanted land.
They did the same against the British (I think).
Ok, so let's suppose that the human rights abuse against the Sikhs in India is very real (i.e. each "incident" is genuine) - How do we expect to achieve a separate state? Do we have a trustworthy political party? Or are we going to use terrorist tactics (which I totally condemn)? There's no point in going on about it - what are we doing about it???

back in punjab none of this baqwaas happens even in amritsar or the parts of punjab i have been too! Many people who are preaching this stuff are the converts to sikhism and erm how many real singhs are there to all the nakli papaaye's!
Blood has been shed before and the in punjab people are content. Last week
there was a convention at Harmander Sahib where MLA etc visited and khalistan wasn't mention.

Punjab only remain busy producing cheap food. By using pesticide , fertilizers & keep producing wheat to satisfy the cental government. Even if panjab have the best infrastructure in north India the government doesnt allow much investment.
One of the reasons the khalistan movement started was economical .
Recently indian government opened a factory making buses but they employed only biharis.
Sikhs are asking for international airport for last 40-50 years in panjab but no. only reason they gonna make it now is because manmohan singh pressured through it.
