New York (PTI): The Indian American Intellectuals Forum has congratulated Chief Minister Narendra Modi for leading BJP to a thumping victory in Gujarat and said the Assembly election result will give a boost to "forces of nationalism".
"We believe that it is the vote for sincerity, integrity, peace, progress and prosperity of Gujarat and India. It is vote against pro-terrorist policies of the UPA led government," said Forum's President Narain Kataria.
Modi's victory, he added, is also a "slap" on the face of "anti-Hindu English media" who have been "maligning and vilifying unfairly and unjustifiably Chief Minister Narendra Modi."
"This election will give boost to the forces of nationalism. It will pave the way for demolition of UPA government which has been trying to increasingly divide Indian polity on the basis of caste and religion," he said in a statement.

London: Non-resident Indians in Britain, led by the powerful and wealthy Gujarati business community, want Narendra Modi to heal the wounds of anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat and help build an inclusive state in his third stint as Chief Minister.
"With this further term, we hope he will work towards building a inclusive society in Gujarat, working for the development of all sections, not one particular section," said Praveen Amin, a Hindu who heads the National Congress of Gujarati Associations of UK, an umbrella body representing 98 Gujarati organisations.
Modi's position is closely intertwined with the activities and interests of British Gujaratis, who are the largest ethnic Indian as well as Hindu community in Britain and number about half a million (there are no official figures of the number of Gujaratis in Britain). They invest heavily in Gujarat and a rising number of them are spending more of their time and money in Gujarat.
Increasingly in a shrinking world, events in India and Britain impact on each other's populations, no more so than Gujaratis.
In interviews with IANS, prominent NRIs said that in addition to the financial and economic stability that Modi has brought in, they want to see religious harmony in Gujarat — an end to the religious strife and polarisation that has marred the Modi years.
"Let me say one thing to Muslims — it is time to forgive and forget," said Sir Gulam K. Noon, head of multi-million pounds Indian food business empire, Noon Products. "You know, things happen. You can't go on and on about 2002. India's roots of secularism are very deep and all Muslims have a place in India."
"But in the next five years, Modi should build a united community, inject secularism and continue the development of Gujarat," Noon added.
"Modi has the power to be a good administrator — we all know that. I just hope he will learn from history and build community cohesion, so that all Gujaratis can benefit from economic and social stability," said Buddhdev Pandya, a London-based Gujarati community leader and well-known campaigner on immigration issues.
Every Gujarati — both Hindu and Muslim — that IANS spoke to highlighted one particular achievement of Modi: that there had been no violence against Muslims since 2002.
"Obviously all our members are deeply hurt. But many Muslim Gujaratis in Britain take a slightly milder position towards Modi these days," said Shamsuddin Agha, president of the Indian Muslim Federation (IMF) UK. "They acknowledge that Muslims have to live and work in Gujarat and they want to look ahead."
Some 70 per cent of the IMF's members are Gujarati-speaking Muslims and many of them, says Agha, realise that "it's no good just being angry."
"Our group has appreciation for his governance. We only hope that in his third coming, Modi will bring justice and punish the people who took part in the 2002 killings," said Agha.
"In the last four or five years there have been no riots against Muslims. There is tension of course, but no riots," he added.

What is it that makes Modi click? No other politician faced the kind of excruciating, cruel and biased persecution by the media.
The establishment in the country, even across the globe riled him. He was not backed by royal pedigree or ancestral fame. A simple RSS pracharak who refused to be cowed down by the urbane, westernized elite now has the media glorifying him to no end. He defied all the established logic of conventional Indian polity. He redefined his political parametres within the confines of Hindutva ideology in a modern, earthly idiom; palatable and conceivable to the common man.
The Man who prides himself the eternal Common Man introduced a new adrenal element into the hackneyed election debate in the country. Not even once he spoke of Ramjanmabhoomi, Article 370 or common civil code. But his entire campaign was anchored on the core concerns of the majority of Indians; on national security, territorial integrity and terrorism— above all the vision of a rising India free of exploitation, scarcity, backwardness and corruption. In that it was a national election fought on a regional format.
The ‘hate Modi’ campaign was reminiscent of a medieval crusade. The secular charade aided and abetted by quasi-judicial, media, activist storm troopers had all the makings of witch-hunt, unheard in Indian history. Yet Modi won resoundingly, and the BJP vote percentage only increased.
In victory Modi is a picture of humility, grace, and magnanimity. Modi again proved his detractors wrong. He assumed the role of a unifier. Unlike Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders he did not appeal to base human instincts. His message was measured and nuanced, sticking to nationalism, security and development.
Congress played all the nasty tricks. Filmy dialogues, delivered in monotonous tone do not make for a coherent campaign theme. Congress campaign managers’ fetish for the word “lie” is so unambiguous that it remained the most jarring note in their speeches. The party that charged the entire BJP with being communal embraced every single defector from that party enthusiastically though the rebels continued to swear that their fight was not with the BJP but was personal. Obviously, the Congress allegation of communalism against BJP could not stick. With not so discreet aid from the Election Commission, legal luminaries, celebrated opinion moulders, money bags and media mughals Congress launched a frenzied, vituperative campaign. Catastrophe, catharsis, dooms day syndrome, they said and for once they suffered poverty for abuse and epithet. Murderer, criminal, ugly Indian, despot, dictatorial, heartless, unemotional, rabble-rouser, communal, haughty, arrogant, not even apologetic (for what?), maut ka saudagar, liar, baiman, makkar. The last five years of Modi-bashing has seen the so-called secularists in their venomous worst. As if there had been no other communal riot in the country. As if Gujarat and Gujaratis were the most heartless people on earth. Maliana, Bhagalpur, Muradabad, Nelli have all witnessed worse riots. In Gujarat the riots were neither premeditated nor one-sided. It was a spontaneous expression of outrage at the torching of 56 Ramsevaks in a train compartment. To call it a pogrom is the biggest lie of modern history. It was very different from the genocidal Delhi carnage of 1984. The BJP has been in power at the centre and states and the 2002 post-Godhra is the lone communal riot under a BJP rule, unlike the Congress and Communists under whom riots have become passé. That is why the orchestrated vilification of the party looks motivated beyond politics.
