Why does the browser come back to the same page without loggin me in?

It shouldn't do that, unless youhave an old browser, or one you know doesn't allow sessions. The new system of login is different to the one before, and should work better.

Try the main login system, and if that doesn't work, email sunny with information of what broswer you're using and what version. (Go to "Help" on the menu, and then "About").
